Chapter 870: The Reaper Of The Weak Has Arrived
After hitting a dead end in the village, Yi Feng continued to search the surrounding area, hoping to find other monsters and dangerous places. Although he hadn't died in the village, he had to admit that the monsters there were quite formidable. If they hadn't turned on each other, they might have actually succeeded in killing him. And if he was lucky, he might even encounter a powerful, lone monster.
As Yi Feng walked down another path, his eyes lit up. He thought to himself that his luck was truly turning around—whatever he wished for seemed to come true. Up ahead, he spotted a lone monster he had never seen before. The creature stood several meters tall, with a massive wolf's head atop its neck, its sharp teeth glinting menacingly.
"Those teeth are almost as terrifying as a T-Rex from my past life!" Yi Feng muttered to himself, seeing an opportunity.
The monster also noticed Yi Feng and immediately became agitated. It never expected to stumble upon such a delicious meal in this place. The wolf-headed monster lunged through the air, pouncing on Yi Feng and pinning him to the ground...
...
...
Fifteen minutes later...
Yi Feng's clothes were torn to shreds, and even his underwear was mostly ripped off, hanging around his calves. His face and neck were covered in saliva from the monster's relentless biting. Yet, the monster refused to give up, still pressing down on Yi Feng and stubbornly gnawing at him with its broken teeth. In its frustration, it lifted itself up and began thrashing wildly at Yi Feng.
Lying on the ground in tattered clothes, Yi Feng remained expressionless, allowing the monster to continue its futile assault. His eyes were hollow, as if he had already accepted his fate...
He never expected that this wolf-headed monster would be so useless. He had given it every opportunity to kill him, but it hadn't even left a single mark on his body. Why was it so hard to die?
*Crack!*
The monster's last tooth shattered, falling onto Yi Feng's face. Yi Feng glanced at it, then casually picked up a nearby rock and smashed it against the monster's head. The creature collapsed instantly, dead beyond any doubt.
Yi Feng pulled up his tattered underwear and looked at his ruined clothes with a pained expression. This outfit had cost him a full three immortal crystals. Even though he had billions of them...
He pried open the monster's skull and retrieved a shiny monster core, hoping to make up for the loss of his three-crystal robe. Of course, he also collected the hundreds of cores from the previous village, which he considered the only worthwhile gain from this entire ordeal.
Days passed in the blink of an eye.
During this time, Yi Feng circled the outskirts of the demon city multiple times. After the first village, he found several others, all of which were predictably filled with monsters. These creatures, upon sensing a human presence, immediately began fighting over Yi Feng, just like in the first village. However, the subsequent battles weren't as intense.
What drove Yi Feng to despair was that despite their ferocious appearances, these monsters were utterly useless. Aside from leaving a few marks on his body that healed almost instantly, they posed no real threat to his life. All they managed to do was ruin another set of clothes worth two immortal crystals...
In a fit of rage, Yi Feng slaughtered them all.
Meanwhile, in a mysterious location within the demon city...
Two figures knelt on the ground, resembling humans but with slightly odd mannerisms upon closer inspection. In front of them was a thick cloud of black mist.
A voice emerged from the mist. "Gou Da, Gou Er, how is your progress?"
"Reporting to you, sir, we've become somewhat proficient, but we still need to refine some of the finer details," the two replied respectfully.
"Good. Remember, to better infiltrate human society and avoid detection, you must maintain your human forms at all times. Strive to be indistinguishable from real humans by the time you set out. Only then will you have made up for your failure in losing the Forest of Terror..." the deep voice from the mist instructed.
"Yes, sir!" the two responded in unison.
At that moment, another cloud of black mist floated in from outside, transforming into a monster that knelt respectfully.
"Sir, there's trouble outside the city."
"What kind of trouble?"
"According to reports, several villages outside the city have been completely wiped out. The culprit is likely a human."
"Hmph, humans again?" The cold voice from the mist echoed. "In recent years, humans have sent quite a few experts to investigate the demon city. Do they think we haven't killed enough of them yet?"
The mist then turned its attention to Gou Da and Gou Er. Feeling the gaze, the two knelt even lower.
"The matter outside the city will be left to you two. Take your dog-headed troops and bring me the head of the culprit," the mist commanded.
"Yes, sir!" Gou Da and Gou Er responded, then transformed into two clouds of black mist and vanished.
Not long after, the two reappeared outside the demon city, followed by a hundred dog-headed monsters clad in uniform armor and wielding standardized weapons.
"Who would have thought?" Gou Da said, looking at the hundred dog-headed troops with pride. "But let's not forget the kindness our master has shown us."
"Indeed, the master has been so good to us..." Gou Er said, moved, while unconsciously sticking out his tongue and panting. "When we were squad leaders and lost all our low-level monsters, the master didn't blame us. Even when we lost the Forest of Terror, he didn't say much. And now, he's entrusted us with the important task of infiltrating the human race... *pant pant*... It's so touching..."
"It's just that this human skin is a bit uncomfortable," Gou Da said, walking awkwardly with splayed feet.
"What can we do? *pant pant*..." Gou Er stuck out his tongue again. "This is the task the master has given us. He said we must maintain our human forms at all times from now on... *pant pant*..."
"Alright, let's go. First, we'll kill that human outside the city," Gou Da said, leading the way with his splayed feet.
"*Pant pant*... Okay..." Gou Er hurried to follow.
At the same time, having slaughtered yet another village of monsters, Yi Feng had completely lost his patience and turned toward the demon city. He planned to simply push open the city gates and enter. If there were humans inside, that would be great—he was getting tired of the blandness of his recent meals. If the city had been overrun by monsters, that would also work, as there might be more powerful creatures within.
After walking a short distance, he saw a group of dog-headed soldiers flying toward him. Gou Da and Gou Er also spotted Yi Feng walking on the ground.
"It really is a human."
"Minions, attack!"
"Kill this man, and there will be great rewards!"
Gou Da and Gou Er eagerly exercised their authority. The orderly dog-headed monsters immediately charged at Yi Feng, their demonic energy surging.
"Uniformed and well-trained!" Yi Feng, who had been feeling hopeless, saw the dog-headed soldiers and felt a spark of hope. He never expected the demon race to be so organized.
But that hope was quickly extinguished.
A dog-headed soldier slashed at his neck, but it didn't even hurt...
"Another group of useless weaklings."
"Just die already."
With an expressionless face, Yi Feng drew his sword and began cutting them down.
"Not bad, he's got some skill!"
"Looks like we'll have to step in."
"And having some skill is even better—it'll highlight our importance!"
"Hey, human, prepare to die!"
Gou Da and Gou Er leaped into the air, charging toward Yi Feng with lightning speed, their auras imposing.
As they got closer, Gou Da rubbed his eyes.
"Brother, does this guy look familiar?"
When he received no response, he turned to look and saw Gou Er sticking out his tongue, his legs trembling as he desperately tried to back away.
"What's wrong, brother?" Gou Da shouted.
"Run, brother! It's the reaper of the weak!" Gou Er yelled.
"The reaper of the weak? What are you talking about?"
It took Gou Da a moment to process the words, but then he suddenly realized.
"Gah!"
"Why didn't you say so earlier?"
Gou Da, with his splayed feet, desperately chased after Gou Er.
