Chapter 869: Playing With Emotions
After passing through the boundary wall, Manman suddenly accelerated...
When Yi Feng woke up, Manman was already sprawled on the ground, and in front of him loomed a majestic city.
The dark city walls, made of some unknown material, soared to a height of a hundred zhang. Even from a distance, they exuded a strong sense of oppression.
The walls on either side of the city gate stretched as far as the eye could see, spanning thousands of miles, like a mighty lion lying in wait.
"Is this the place?" Yi Feng murmured to himself as he looked up at the city. He trusted Manman's automatic navigation, but something about this place felt off.
Despite the city's grandeur, there wasn't a single person in sight. Even the heavy city gates were tightly shut, giving the place an eerie, lifeless atmosphere, like a ghost town.
Since the gates were closed, Yi Feng decided not to rush into the city. Instead, he planned to scout the area outside first.
The outskirts were desolate, but upon closer inspection, there were traces of past habitation. Following these traces, Yi Feng discovered a path.
He followed the path, walking for what felt like over ten miles, until he spotted signs of buildings.
"Ah, a village!" Yi Feng exclaimed with excitement.
He wanted to find someone nearby to ask about the most dangerous places in the area. However, as he entered the village, he didn't see a single person. Yet, judging by the surrounding facilities, the village didn't seem abandoned.
So, Yi Feng called out loudly, "Is anyone here? I'm a traveler passing through, and I'm hungry. Could I trouble you for some food?"
The village wasn't large, and his voice echoed throughout. Soon, rustling sounds came from all directions.
"Oh, I hear footsteps. Quite a few people, huh? Maybe the whole village is coming out? The people here are so welcoming. Truly, the warmth of human kindness can only be found in small mountain villages like this!" Yi Feng thought with a smile.
But the next moment, his smile froze.
What emerged from all directions weren't villagers—they were bizarre, grotesque monsters.
These monsters came in all shapes and sizes. Some had six eyes and eight legs, others had a single leg and no arms, resembling pillars, while others were towering and majestic, like giant columns...
And when these monsters saw Yi Feng, they were equally stunned.
A human? Here?
Instantly, the air turned cold, and the atmosphere grew tense.
Clearly, neither side had expected this encounter, and they stared at each other in disbelief.
However, after a brief moment of silence, the monsters finally reacted. With roars and snarls, they lunged at Yi Feng from all directions, their gaping mouths wide open.
In their eyes, Yi Feng was a delicious piece of meat, and they scrambled to get to him first, fearing they might miss out.
"Well, well, it's all monsters. So this village has already fallen," Yi Feng finally realized.
But instead of fear, his eyes sparkled with excitement.
Now he understood why Piaomiao Hong had called this place dangerous—it was teeming with powerful monsters. These creatures were on a completely different level compared to the Mundobeasts and Crawlers he had encountered before.
Although the thought of being devoured by monsters and turned into waste was hard to stomach, for the sake of immortality, it seemed like a small price to pay.
So, as the monsters charged at him, Yi Feng didn't plan to defend or fight back. Instead, he gritted his teeth and waited for them to tear him apart.
Finally, the attack came.
A massive black claw descended toward his head, its powerful grip seemingly ready to crush Yi Feng's skull with a single squeeze.
But then, something unexpected happened.
Another monster let out a roar and swung its sharp claw, severing the giant claw mid-air. Afterward, it let out a triumphant howl, as if declaring to the other monsters—this human was its prey alone!
However, its victory was short-lived. In the next moment, another monster tore it in half.
In an instant, the monsters began to fight fiercely over Yi Feng, their prized meal. Those who had made the first move to claim him became the primary targets of the others.
Even the long-tongued monsters that had managed to lick Yi Feng's head were quickly torn to pieces by their rivals.
The air was thick with the stench of blood, and the ground was littered with the dismembered limbs of the monsters. The chaos showed no signs of stopping; if anything, it only grew more intense.
As for Yi Feng, he remained completely unharmed. Any monster that tried to attack him was immediately targeted and killed by the others.
Now, it seemed that until the monsters settled their fight, none of them would get a chance to harm him.
Yi Feng's face darkened, and his lips twitched.
"What the hell? Are you kidding me?!" he muttered under his breath.
He had finally found a chance to die, and this was what happened?
Frustrated, Yi Feng started shouting, even suggesting that the monsters share him equally.
But the monsters, now consumed by bloodlust, paid no attention to his pleas. Each one wanted Yi Feng all to itself and wouldn't allow any other monster to claim even a single hair.
Time passed, and Yi Feng sat on a step, propping his chin on his hands, watching the chaos unfold with boredom.
A severed tongue fell from above and landed on his head. He didn't even flinch.
Next, a torn kidney flew over and stuck to his face. He pulled it off without expression and tossed it aside.
Then, half of a monster's butt came flying toward him. He waved it away in disgust, and it landed at his feet, facing upward.
He pushed it aside with his foot, muttering under his breath.
Yawning, he stretched and eventually dozed off.
Yi Feng had no idea how long he slept, but when he woke up, the ground was covered in corpses and dismembered limbs.
Among the carnage, a monster with only half its body left was crawling toward him, its face a mix of pain and joy, but mostly a twisted grin.
It seemed to be gloating, believing itself the victor of this brutal battle.
Slowly, it crawled closer to Yi Feng, ready to claim its prize.
Finally, it reached Yi Feng's feet. Its sharp claw rose, and its longest finger touched the tip of Yi Feng's shoe.
But the moment it made contact...
Its last breath left its body, and it collapsed.
Yi Feng looked at the monster with a strange expression, rubbing his forehead in frustration.
He wanted to curse, but the words stuck in his throat.
Brushing off a chunk of flesh from his face, he revealed a grim expression. Then, leaning on his knees, he stood up, muttering curses under his breath as he walked away, filled with resentment...
