Chapter 1355: Global Catastrophe
Waves surged across the world.
Starting at a hundred zhang (approximately 333 meters), they had now reached a thousand zhang (approximately 3,333 meters), sweeping toward every corner of the globe.
"Major Alert! Eagle Island is experiencing a thousand-zhang tsunami, unprecedented in recorded history. The highest level of evacuation warning has been issued. Losses are incalculable!"
"Breaking News! The coast of Mulugu has been hit by an extremely powerful tsunami. A typhoon of unprecedented intensity has made landfall. The nation has issued its highest-level evacuation notice. Power and transportation systems are paralyzed!"
"Emergency Notice! A historically unprecedented super tsunami is about to make landfall. Coastal residents must evacuate immediately..."
...
In the office, Captain Hao listened to the various reports on his phone and tossed it aside in frustration, his face filled with irritation.
"The world is getting more and more absurd!"
"The chaos caused by the spirit demons was bad enough. We finally managed to stabilize the situation and restore some normalcy for the citizens. But these news outlets are just stirring up panic, spreading all kinds of fake news. They have no sense of responsibility!"
"To grab attention, they'll say anything! A thousand-zhang tsunami? What nonsense!"
The more he listened, the angrier he became.
Captain Hao stood up, clasped his hands behind his back, and stood by the window, his face a mask of frustration.
He had been anxiously waiting for news about the terrifying entity, and the stress was already unbearable. To relieve some of the pressure, he had finally decided to check his phone, only to be bombarded with sensationalized garbage. It was infuriating.
Just as he was stewing in his frustration, he noticed that the staff outside his office were suddenly bustling about, running around in a frenzy as if some great disaster had struck.
Captain Hao was no stranger to crises, but he had never seen such a scene before.
His brow furrowed tightly.
"Could it be...?"
"Has that terrifying entity outside the city, the one from the alien race, actually breached the city limits?!"
The thought made him tense up. He quickly grabbed the landline on his desk to call his secretary.
But before he could dial, the secretary burst into the office in a panic!
"Captain!"
"Something terrible has happened! We've received..."
Before the secretary could finish, Captain Hao snapped at him with a cold glare.
"What's with all this panic?!"
"Even if that terrifying alien has entered the city, our demon-hunting department..."
But before he could finish his reprimand, the secretary interrupted him urgently.
"We've received a message from headquarters!"
"Thousand-zhang tsunamis are breaking out all over the world! In less than an hour, an unprecedented disaster will hit the coastal regions of every continent. Headquarters has ordered us to immediately mobilize all available personnel and rush to the coasts!"
The secretary's near-shouting voice stunned Captain Hao.
Shock, disbelief, and awe flashed across his face.
In just a few seconds, his expression changed dramatically. He strode forward, his face filled with incredulity.
"What?!"
"There really is a thousand-zhang tsunami?!"
Without waiting for the secretary to stammer out a response, he snatched the document and scanned it quickly. His hands trembled as he read.
"The Pacific Ocean has undergone a sudden, drastic change. Sea levels have risen by a thousand meters!"
"The waves are spreading rapidly, heading toward coastlines around the world!"
"Ten minutes ago, the island nation of Japan was completely submerged!"
"Within half an hour, a tsunami of unprecedented scale, surpassing anything in human history, will hit our coastal regions. All branches of the demon-hunting department are ordered to immediately dispatch personnel to the nearest coasts. Delay will be met with military punishment!"
...
After quickly skimming the document, Captain Hao felt his legs go weak. He collapsed onto the sofa, his glasses slipping off his face and falling to the floor.
His lips trembled as he muttered, his face pale as a sheet.
"This... this can't be!"
"There really is a world-ending tsunami? How is this possible?!"
"Notify everyone immediately! Issue the orders! All elite team leaders must rush to the coasts at once. Anyone who delays even a second will be executed on the spot!!!"
Even though he was terrified and disoriented, his voice roared with authority as he issued the commands.
Captain Hao had always been known for his composure. He was the type who could remain calm even if Mount Tai collapsed before him. Even if a truly terrifying creature had invaded the city, he would have been able to steady his troops and lead them without hesitation, even if it meant sacrificing himself to protect the people.
But this...
He never could have imagined that the "fake news" he had dismissed earlier was actually a real, unfolding disaster!
A thousand-zhang tsunami!
A natural disaster of this scale, sweeping across the entire world, was something that had never happened since the dawn of civilization. It was striking everywhere simultaneously, and the casualties and destruction it would cause were beyond estimation. Even the Ice Age paled in comparison!
Without exaggeration, this was an apocalyptic catastrophe!
Such a sudden, global disaster was too overwhelming and abrupt. No one had the ability or time to respond, and preventing it was nothing but a pipe dream.
The only thing they could do now was to pay the highest price to minimize the casualties as much as possible. The consequences were already unimaginable.
Captain Hao was filled with despair, and the secretary was too frightened to react. The secretary's earlier shout had been driven purely by duty and conviction, overcoming his momentary fear.
Now, he was completely paralyzed.
Seeing this, Captain Hao roared in fury, leaping to his feet.
"Idiot!"
"Notify everyone now! Mobilize all our elites and send them to the coasts immediately!!!"
His voice echoed throughout the entire bureau.
The secretary finally snapped out of his daze and stammered a response.
"Headquarters has already issued the orders!"
Hearing this, Captain Hao managed to suppress his murderous rage. But he didn't dare to relax for even a moment. He immediately opened all communication channels, pressing his ear close to listen for updates.
Seeing the captain's face, which looked as if the sky had fallen, the secretary was too scared to make a sound.
He could only stand quietly by the side, whispering in a barely audible voice, trembling with fear.
"Cap... Captain, what should we do? Is there anything we can do to help the coastal areas?"
Hearing this, Captain Hao's expression darkened. He clenched his fists tightly, his face turning ashen.
"In the face of a global disaster like this, we are utterly powerless..."
"All we can do now is pray silently, hoping that the heavens will show mercy and protect our coastal citizens. If we can minimize the casualties, that will already be a miracle."
Hearing these grim words, the secretary collapsed to the floor.
He looked up at the captain with deep solemnity. The once-mighty leader now seemed dim and hollow, as if consumed by despair and guilt. Beads of sweat rolled down his face.
As the captain had said, in the face of such a global catastrophe, no matter how strong an individual might be, they were nothing more than an ant. Even if all the demon-hunting elites from every region rushed to the coasts, it would be like trying to put out a wildfire with a cup of water.
In the face of nature, humanity was always too small.
Unless there truly were gods in this world, no one could change the endless casualties that were about to come.
At this moment, not only was Pingjiang City plunged into silence, but people all over the world were enveloped in overwhelming fear. The long-lost reverence for nature had been reawakened.
