Chapter 1245: The Failed Scheme
Five figures emerged from the Land of Fallen Gods, striding across the sky.
With each step, they traversed a thousand miles, leaving no trace of their passage.
Only when they could see the ships on the horizon did they come to a halt. Their auras were profound and unfathomable, and their eyes carried a mocking smile.
"Pitiful, ignorant ants."
"After cultivating for millions of years, they are still so weak. How dare they dream of defiling the sacred land? This is a capital offense!"
"Indeed, the foolish masses are unaware of their own insignificance. Such is fate."
The terrifying ancient starship, which had once caused waves of fear, now seemed like a fragile piece of driftwood in their eyes, easily crushed with a single gesture.
As for the people on the ship, they were nothing more than objects of disdain.
The leader of the group, however, remained calm and composed. He turned back and coldly instructed his companions.
"Everyone."
"Though this matter may seem trivial, it was personally ordered by Lord Yao. We must give it our utmost effort. When we return, we shall be rewarded with divine wine!"
Hearing this, the group's spirits lifted.
An elderly man flicked his sleeve, and a radiant glass bottle appeared in his hand.
"This is the Soul-Severing Liquid. We used half of it last time, and even this remaining half is enough to poison all the ancient sea creatures within a million miles. The sea will soon be filled with floating corpses!"
The others nodded in agreement, their eyes filled with both fear and anticipation.
The leader, however, still seemed uneasy. He glanced around and pondered for a moment.
"Everyone, we cannot afford even the slightest mistake."
"Though the Soul-Severing Liquid is incredibly potent, a million-mile radius might not be enough to cripple the sea creatures. Let's add fuel to the fire. We'll use the Heavenly Five Extremes Formation to amplify the poison's spread!"
As soon as he finished speaking, the others looked at him with admiration.
"Brother Liu, you are absolutely right!"
"If we can spread the poison across ten million miles, the sea creatures will surely suffer heavy casualties. By then, that decrepit ship will be caught in the crossfire and sink into the sea!"
With cold smiles, the group dispersed across the sky.
In an instant!
The five figures took up mysterious positions, with the leader at the forefront. They gathered a terrifying amount of cosmic energy, causing the clouds to churn and the waves to surge.
As the poison was poured into the sea, it spread rapidly into the depths, as if guided by an invisible force, seeking out all living creatures in the ocean!
Hidden within the clouds, the group watched with eager smiles.
"Hahaha..."
"Let's be patient and enjoy the show!"
"Sea beasts are despicable, but these foolish mortals are even more so. Watching them tear each other apart will be most entertaining!"
They waited for several moments.
But the sea remained calm, with no signs of massive sea beast corpses. Their smiles faded, and after a long wait, they only saw some ordinary sea creatures floating to the surface. The group exchanged puzzled glances.
"This shouldn't be happening..."
"Something is wrong. Even ancient sea beasts shouldn't be able to resist the Soul-Severing Liquid. Why haven't we seen a single corpse?"
"Are you asking me?"
"Did you not use your full strength when activating the formation?"
"Are you accusing me? You're the one who didn't give it your all!"
After a brief argument, the leader grew increasingly uneasy. Fearing that their presence might be discovered, he coldly ordered the group to return to the Land of Fallen Gods.
...
In the ancient city of Duan Ya.
On a magnificent carved terrace, Yao Qianji stood with a satisfied smile, gazing at the distant sea.
Behind him.
Several figures entered steadily.
"Reporting to Lord Yao..."
Before they could finish, the people in the hall smiled even more broadly.
Yao Qianji turned around, his eyes filled with a feigned magnanimity.
"Everyone."
"You are indeed the elite of this city. Your work is swift and efficient. Come, join me for a drink."
But as soon as he finished speaking, the group hesitated.
The leader stepped forward nervously, his voice tinged with uncertainty.
"Lord Yao, please forgive us."
"We poured the Soul-Severing Liquid into the sea and used the Heavenly Five Extremes Formation to amplify its effects. However, after a long time, we saw no sea beast corpses. We are unsure of the reason..."
"Our knowledge is limited, so we have come to report this to you, hoping for your guidance."
The tense voice echoed through the hall, and the room fell into an eerie silence.
Yao Qianji's eyes turned cold as he scrutinized the expressions of the returning group.
"Is this true?!"
The group immediately knelt, bowing deeply.
"Lord Yao, we swear it is true!"
The hall was deathly quiet, and everyone exchanged nervous glances, unsure of what had happened.
Yao Qianji stared at them for a few moments before coldly setting down his wine cup.
"I trust you wouldn't dare lie to me!"
"Take me there. I will see for myself!"
With a wave of his sleeve, the entire group followed him as they tore through the void.
In an instant.
They stood atop the clouds, staring at the sea below with confusion.
For a long time, no one dared to speak, and no one could understand why things had turned out this way.
Yao Qianji's face was dark.
He slowly closed his eyes, and his immense cultivation caused the surroundings to tremble.
After a few moments.
His divine sense covered millions of miles, thoroughly scanning nearly half of the sea.
When he opened his eyes again, his brow was slightly furrowed.
"How strange, how strange..."
"Within a radius of ten million miles, there is not a single ancient sea beast. What could have happened? The ancient sea beasts have inhabited these waters for countless ages. This has never occurred before..."
Even he was baffled, and the others were even more astonished.
What could have caused all the ancient sea beasts to disappear?
The brilliant plan to use the sea beasts to eliminate the mortals had failed, and the entire scheme was thrown into disarray. The situation had become unpredictable.
In this tense and bewildering moment.
Another person stepped forward and bowed.
"Reporting to Lord Yao."
"That mortal ship is still approaching the sacred land. What should we do?"
What should they do?
With things as they were, what could they do?
They couldn't very well personally go and slaughter the mortals, could they?
Those fools had truly gotten lucky!
Yao Qianji's face darkened to the extreme, and without another word, he waved his sleeve and tore through the void, leaving.
Half a month later.
On the ancient starship, figures moved about, regardless of status or rank. Everyone stood by the carved railings, gazing at the distant sea and exclaiming in awe at the silhouette of the continent in the sunset.
"Wow! Look!"
"The Land of Fallen Gods? Are we really about to arrive?!"
"Hahaha! I must be the child of fortune!"
"Who would have thought this journey would go so smoothly? Captain, we're almost at the Land of Fallen Gods!"
"I didn't expect it either!"
Cheers and excited chatter filled the air, and everyone's faces were flushed with excitement.
As the silhouette grew closer, it seemed as though the path to immortality was within reach.
On the top deck.
A young maid was jumping with joy, her face red with excitement.
"Miss! Miss, look! We've really reached the Land of Fallen Gods!"
Amidst the jubilation.
Lin Ruowei couldn't hide her excitement either. She gripped the carved railing tightly, her eyes fixed on the distant horizon.
