Chapter 1027: Is A Mere Half Saint Considered A Tal
"Yi Feng? That young man you plan to take as your disciple?" Luo Hongfei furrowed his brows slightly, a hint of hesitation in his eyes.
Fu Nantian nodded in response. "Exactly. Although Yi Feng is only a half-saint, he is a talented individual and would be the most suitable guide."
Luo Hongfei fell into deep thought, not immediately agreeing.
Before Fu Nantian could continue, a cold, mocking laugh came from the Lanxing envoy. "A mere half-saint is considered a talent? Has Yunxing fallen so low?" The tone was filled with disdain, and the envoy's eyes showed clear irritation.
The two old men looked embarrassed, lacking the confidence to refute.
Fortunately, the leading woman spoke up coldly, "Regardless of cultivation level, as long as he can guide us, it's fine. The situation is urgent, summon him quickly."
Hearing this, Fu Nantian let out a slight sigh of relief and bowed respectfully. "Senior, please forgive me. My disciple is still inexperienced, and this matter is of great importance. Allow me to give him a few instructions."
Seeing the woman nod indifferently, Fu Nantian quickly excused himself and left. Luo Hongfei followed closely behind, as the matter was indeed significant.
The two old men hurried to a small house at the edge of the village. Pushing open the courtyard gate, they saw Yi Feng lounging lazily in the yard, basking in the sun as if he had already fallen asleep. A jug of wine sat on the stone table. His life seemed more leisurely than theirs, as if he were the true elder.
The two old men exchanged glances, their expressions mixed. Fu Nantian smiled reassuringly, as if to say, "Trust me." He stepped forward first, clearing his throat.
The cough woke Yi Feng, who slowly opened his eyes to see the flamboyant old man standing before him with an unusually serious expression.
"Yi Feng, I have an important task at hand. There are three seniors who need to investigate some matters in various places. You will guide them. If you do well, I can grant you anything you desire."
The matter concerned the safety of all of Yunxing and involved powerful figures from beyond the stars, so Fu Nantian did not reveal the full truth. However, his instructions were appropriate, and he offered generous rewards, making his request seem almost flawless.
Luo Hongfei was satisfied and added cautiously, "Young man, if you accompany the three seniors well, you will have done your part, and we will remember this favor."
After speaking, both men looked at Yi Feng with hopeful eyes.
Still drowsy, Yi Feng initially wanted to refuse, but seeing how serious the two elders were, he thought it over and agreed. "Alright, I'll guide them around for you."
He didn't care much about favors or gifts; he was mainly bored lately, and a walk would do him good. Besides, he was doing this to give the two old men some face.
Seeing Yi Feng agree so readily, the two elders smiled knowingly. After all, he was just a young man, easily swayed by a few words. Since he was so cooperative and contributing to Yunxing's survival, they would reward him with an opportunity in the future.
Having made up their minds, the two elders immediately took Yi Feng to the back of the village.
In just a few moments, eight saints had gathered, and ripples began to form in the void. As they prepared to act, stepping into the ancient corridor to enhance their cultivation, the saints' expressions varied, all showing some tension.
Fu Nantian gave Yi Feng a deep look. This future disciple of his had a fate even he couldn't discern, so he believed Yi Feng could handle the task of being a guide.
Out of concern, Fu Nantian leaned in and whispered another reminder. "Yi Feng, these three are our seniors, and their strength is unfathomable. You only need to guide them. Don't ask too many questions along the way, and definitely don't offend them. Remember that."
Yi Feng, who was only thinking about taking advantage of the trip to travel, wasn't particularly interested in their seniors. "Oh."
His indifferent reaction was noticed by the three from Lanxing. Clearly a young man, with not a trace of Dao power in him, he had likely just barely touched the threshold of being a half-saint. His cultivation was shallow, and he lacked the humility expected of a junior. That such a person could be entrusted with an important task showed just how far Yunxing had fallen.
Oh well.
He was just a tool for guiding them; there was no need to be too demanding.
After their initial assessment, the three from Lanxing no longer paid any attention to Yi Feng.
The eight saints stepped into the void and departed. The three from Lanxing didn't linger either, immediately summoning a hundred-zhang-long flying vessel. The three of them, along with Yi Feng, boarded the vessel and soared into the sky.
Although it was just a means of transportation, the vessel could travel a thousand miles in an instant, rivaling the abilities of a saint.
This was Yi Feng's first time riding such a vessel, and he felt a small thrill. Looking down at the earth from the clouds and the void, he finally felt a sense of accomplishment befitting a cultivator, gradually immersing himself in the atmosphere of the journey.
Unfortunately, the three so-called seniors remained seated in meditation the entire time, like statues. The woman among them was quite beautiful, but her expression was as cold as ice, giving off the aura of a bodhisattva. She never spoke, maintaining an air of aloofness that kept others at a distance.
Seeing this, Yi Feng decided not to bother engaging with them. They clearly had no intention of conversing, and with Fu Nantian's warning in mind, he saw no reason to invite trouble.
Sitting alone at the edge of the flying vessel, Yi Feng admired the beautiful scenery of the mountains and rivers below, resting his chin on his hand as he relaxed, his thoughts drifting...
Over the past few days, he had experienced a rare sense of peace. However, his repeated failures in his quest for death still troubled him.
What exactly was his cultivation level?
Bai Piaopiao was a true saint, yet she couldn't harm him. That so-called Sword Saint Su Jie, who sounded incredibly powerful, also couldn't hurt him. Even the old men in the village, like Fu Nantian and Old Wei, didn't seem particularly strong.
It seemed even saints couldn't do anything to him.
Recalling his experiences over the past days, Yi Feng had come to realize that blindly seeking death was no longer a viable option. The system's death-seeking tasks would have to be approached cautiously, one step at a time.
With his mind at ease, Yi Feng lay back on the flying vessel, gazing at the vast sky as he gradually drifted off to sleep.
For several days, he did nothing but enjoy the scenery, eat, and sleep. He didn't have much else, but he had brought plenty of local eggs and other supplies from his previous stock.
Yi Feng was completely relaxed, thoroughly enjoying the leisurely pace of this free trip.
It wasn't until the flying vessel approached a patch of black mist that Yi Feng was woken from his dream by the sound of conversation. Opening his eyes, he saw the three so-called seniors.
"It seems the source of the spatial rift anomaly in Yunxing must be within this black domain."
"Perhaps these demonic creatures have torn open space, allowing the void beasts that roam the chaotic currents of time to enter."
"Indeed, what you both say makes sense. We must be cautious when we investigate."
After a few whispered words, the woman in the gauzy dress slowly stood up. With a light step, she landed at the edge of the flying vessel, instantly appearing beside Yi Feng.
Everything happened so quickly that Yi Feng was momentarily stunned.
This woman really had something about her.
Not only was she as beautiful as a celestial being, but her movements were also incredibly skilled. Yi Feng had seen his fair share of experts, but this was the first time he had encountered someone of this caliber.
She truly exuded an air of superiority and extraordinary grace.
As Yi Feng silently marveled, the woman never glanced his way. Her clear eyes were fixed on the horizon, her expression serious.
Following her gaze, Yi Feng saw a mass of black mist swirling in the distance, enveloping the entire area like a sandstorm ready to erupt or a drop of ink spreading through water.
Upon closer inspection, he could see shadowy figures occasionally darting across the gray land. There were creatures he had seen before, like the Mengduo beasts, as well as bizarre beings with strange markings on their faces, and even rolling demonic entities that looked like giant dumplings—utterly repulsive and far less appealing than the wild game he was used to.
Yi Feng's interest waned, and he sat listlessly on the flying vessel, his demeanor casual and indifferent.
His lackadaisical attitude was caught in the woman's peripheral vision, making him appear both ignorant and cowardly.
With a brief glance, she turned her attention back to the front and spoke casually, "Soon, we will enter the black mist. No matter what happens, you must stay close to the three of us. If you lose your life, it's a small matter, but having to find another guide would be troublesome."
Was that even human language?
Yi Feng's mouth twitched as he listened, feeling utterly speechless at this heartless woman. But as he thought about it, he sensed a hint of danger, which made him disregard her attitude. His eyes fixed on the black mist ahead.
If there was real danger, that would be fantastic.
As the woman waved her sleeve, the flying vessel shot forward like a beam of light, heading straight for the black mist!
Yi Feng slowly stood up, his eyes sparkling with anticipation.
