Chapter 961: What Day Is It
"Why would I laugh at you?"
Yi Feng smiled.
He raised his wine cup towards Qin Nan, then downed it in one go.
Life was beautiful.
Even at the brink of death, having someone like Qin Nan by his side was truly wonderful.
"However, I must trouble Brother Yi to prepare for my funeral sooner rather than later," Qin Nan said with a bitter smile. "The seal I just used drained half of my strength, so I can only accompany Brother Yi for seven more days."
As he spoke, he tilted his head back and finished his cup of wine.
After one cup, he quickly poured himself two more and drank them in quick succession.
Three cups of strong liquor later, Qin Nan's face was slightly flushed, his thin frame trembling slightly. Tears welled up in his reddened eyes without him even realizing it.
"Brother Yi, I'm not afraid to admit this, but I'm really scared of dying," Qin Nan said, pouring himself another cup, as if trying to numb himself with alcohol. His voice was choked with emotion. "I truly admire you, Brother Yi. I admire how fearless you are in the face of death, how calm and composed you are."
"I... I can't be like you, Brother Yi, because I really don't want to die."
Qin Nan clenched his fists, his pale face filled with deep resentment.
He was the young master of the Qin family.
The top genius of the younger generation in the Heavenly Domain.
He had the potential to become a sage in the future.
His achievements were limitless, and now he was going to die such a tragic death. How could he accept it?
"Ah..."
Yi Feng sighed softly, unsure of what to say. He could only pat Qin Nan's shoulder in comfort.
Perhaps.
Qin Nan's behavior might seem contradictory to some.
But to Yi Feng, it felt genuine.
This was what it meant to be human.
A living, breathing human being!
When faced with life and death, what difference did it make whether you were a mortal or a cultivator...
The night grew darker, but the two of them continued to drink.
Another day and night passed...
On the vast ship, only the two of them remained.
The sea breeze blew past, causing the red flag atop the mast to flutter in the wind, as if telling the story of how it had once sailed through storms and dominated the Heavenly Domain before being trapped here.
The sound of wine bottles hitting the ground was pleasant, but the shattered fragments scattered across the floor went unnoticed. The two of them were still leaning against the table, talking nonstop.
Qin Nan began recounting the stories of his life to Yi Feng.
He spoke of his youthful naivety and innocence.
He spoke of his adventurous life, filled with both joy and vengeance.
He spoke of how, led astray by a few friends, he had gone down a path of no return, and how he still had a few young wives waiting for him on some island.
Yi Feng listened intently throughout, not interrupting once.
Although he had lived two lives, he couldn't fully empathize with Qin Nan's current state of mind.
Even though he, too, was about to die, his death wasn't truly real.
So he could only choose to be a good listener.
Unknowingly, a long time had passed...
The gloomy sky, which had been overcast for days, now had a faint glow of sunset, casting a reddish hue over the table.
Yi Feng poured himself a full cup and drank it in one go.
The wine was good, the stories were good, but the sun was setting...
Finally, Qin Nan seemed to have run out of energy. He collapsed under the table, clutching one of its legs, and began to snore softly.
Yi Feng didn't pay him any mind. He picked up the wine jug and staggered to his feet.
Step by step, he made his way to the bow of the ship.
By the time he reached the bow, the wine jug was empty. He shook it a few times, then casually tossed it into the endless sea, where it created a small splash.
He stood with his hands behind his back, gazing into the distance.
The setting sun cast a long shadow behind him...
He had a strange feeling.
Something seemed to be waiting for him in the distant horizon.
Strange.
Strange.
After experiencing such highs and lows, living out his final days, and saying everything he wanted to say, Qin Nan seemed to have completely let go.
He no longer cared about how many days he had left.
He simply wanted to enjoy these last moments to the fullest, without a care in the world.
The two of them each lay on a deck chair, fishing from the ship.
When a fish bit, Yi Feng immediately reeled it in.
A one-foot-long, unnamed fish with a bluish body was caught and flopped noisily on the deck.
"Go on, cook it," Yi Feng said with a smirk.
"Ah, come on! How is it that you always catch the first fish? At least let me win once!" Qin Nan complained, clearly frustrated.
"You promised that whoever didn't catch a fish would cook," Yi Feng said, pointing at Qin Nan. "It's your turn to cook."
"But I've already cooked so many meals," Qin Nan said with a dark expression. "When will I ever get to taste something you've made, Brother Yi?"
"You'll have to earn that privilege," Yi Feng replied with a laugh.
"Fine, let's start over. Whoever catches the first fish doesn't have to cook," Qin Nan said, clearly trying to weasel his way out.
"Alright, I'll give you one more chance," Yi Feng said with a smile.
Qin Nan, as if injected with adrenaline, quickly sat back down on his deck chair, his eyes fixed on the float.
Finally, the float moved.
Qin Nan's eyes lit up.
"Haha, Brother Yi, you're going to lose this time!"
Qin Nan shouted excitedly as he reeled in the line.
However.
Just as a red-headed fish broke the surface, it slipped off the hook and swam away.
"What the...?"
Qin Nan sat frozen on his deck chair, looking like a wilted eggplant.
"Can't blame me for not giving you a chance. You're just not good enough," Yi Feng said leisurely as he reeled in another half-foot-long fish with ease.
Qin Nan stared in disbelief.
"What are you waiting for? Go cook," Yi Feng barked.
"Fine..."
Qin Nan clicked his tongue, picked up the two fish, and slunk off to the kitchen.
In the blink of an eye, several more days passed.
The two of them spent their time fishing, playing chess, drinking, and chatting. When they got too drunk, they simply passed out on their deck chairs.
In their eyes, time had lost all meaning. There was no distinction between day and night.
As for Qin Nan, freed from the pressures of competing with his peers and the burdens of his family, he completely let himself go. He even ran around the ship naked from time to time, much to Yi Feng's disgust.
"What day is it today?" Yi Feng asked.
"I don't know. Three days? Four days?"
Qin Nan, focused on fishing, waved his hand dismissively. "Who cares?"
"But why don't I feel like I'm about to die yet?" Yi Feng asked again.
"You've still got a while to go. At least wait until after I'm dead before you start saying that," Qin Nan said, plucking at his leg hair out of boredom as the fish refused to bite.
"Oh."
Yi Feng nodded.
A few more days passed.
Yi Feng, lying on his deck chair and playing with a snail, turned to Qin Nan and asked, "How many days has it been now? It feels like it's about time. Why aren't you dead yet?"
Qin Nan, who had been racking his brain over a chess puzzle Yi Feng had set for him, looked up and thought for a moment. "I haven't been keeping track. Maybe a day or two?"
"You're really something. How can you not keep track of the days?" Yi Feng said with a dark expression.
"Well, you haven't been keeping track either, Brother Yi," Qin Nan retorted, looking aggrieved.
"Quick, think of a way to figure out how many days have passed," Yi Feng said, waving his hand impatiently.
"Ugh, what's the point? It's only seven days. When the time comes, I'll die," Qin Nan said reluctantly.
But seeing Yi Feng's insistence, Qin Nan finally said, "Fine, I'll check the seal on the Four Directions Array Box. That should tell us how many days have passed."
With that, Qin Nan flipped his hand, and a faintly glowing Four Directions Array Box appeared in his palm.
"Ah!"
The next moment.
Qin Nan let out a scream.
"What's wrong with you?"
Yi Feng was startled and scolded, "Why are you screaming like a ghost?"
"Brother Yi, th-th-this... this can't be right," Qin Nan stammered, his body trembling as he looked at the box in disbelief. "It's been sixteen days!"
"What?!"
Yi Feng nearly fell off his deck chair. He stood up, staring at Qin Nan in shock.
