Chapter 887: A Bountiful Harvest
Yi Feng paid no attention to the two individuals beside him. As for why he was sitting here, it was simply because there were two people nearby, and by comparison, the fish here were likely more abundant.
Yi Feng opened his spatial ring and rummaged inside, pulling out a fishing rod that was about ten feet long. This fishing rod had been crafted on the small island of the Heaven and Earth Sect.
"Oh no, only the hook is left," Yi Feng muttered, looking at the rudimentary fishing rod with some frustration. It had been so long since he last fished that he couldn't even remember where he had put the float.
But that wasn't a problem. Yi Feng stood up and began searching through the plants growing behind him. Before long, he found a reed-like stalk. He remembered using something similar to fish when he was a child in his previous life.
After attaching the makeshift float, Yi Feng began testing the water's depth. Being an amateur, he moved the float up and down, causing ripples to spread across the water's surface. His actions were so conspicuous that it was impossible not to notice him.
The silent maid behind Feng Qianyue couldn't help but chuckle. "Miss, look at that guy. He's so strange. Everyone who comes here to fish has top-notch equipment, but this guy is using a bamboo pole. And his float? It's just a random stalk he picked!"
Feng Qianyue remained silent, but in her heart, she was even more convinced that Yi Feng wasn't here to fish. However, since the old man in the straw raincoat hadn't said anything, she, as a newcomer, didn't feel it was her place to intervene.
"What should I use as bait?" Yi Feng finally finished setting up his float but realized he hadn't prepared any bait. He felt a pang of regret. If only he had asked Piaomiao Hong for some before they parted ways.
Then he remembered how, in his previous life, he and his friends used earthworms to fish in the countryside. He could still recall that day—a light drizzle falling as he carried a small bucket filled with crucian carp caught using earthworms. He had walked proudly through the village, only to run into Ah Zhen from the neighboring village...
He would never forget the look in Ah Zhen's eyes...
Yi Feng stood up, took out a hoe from his spatial ring, and began digging in the damp, shaded soil nearby. Before long, he had dug up seven or eight earthworms. He placed them in a small bottle with some soil and returned to the lakeside.
After sitting back down, Yi Feng took out one of the earthworms, cut it into pieces with a dagger, and hooked one piece onto the fishing line.
*Plop!*
The hook sank into the water, and Yi Feng finally began fishing.
Meanwhile, the maid behind Feng Qianyue covered her mouth in shock. "Miss, look at this weirdo! He's actually using earthworms to fish!"
Feng Qianyue frowned, feeling a surge of anger. In her eyes, Yi Feng's actions were a desecration of Yun Lake. The lake was a sacred gift from the heavens, and all creatures within it were spiritual beings. Those who came to fish here used the finest equipment, and even the bait was carefully chosen. Yet, Yi Feng was using a bamboo pole and earthworms—such crude behavior was utterly unworthy of Yun Lake's sanctity. She couldn't help but feel that he would surely incur divine punishment.
She was about to stand up and drive Yi Feng away when a voice suddenly echoed in her mind.
"Remain calm. Why concern yourself with the actions of others?"
"It's him?" Feng Qianyue's body trembled slightly as she glanced toward the old man in the straw raincoat. The old man had been sitting motionless the entire time, showing no reaction to anything.
"That's right. There's no one else here. It must be him," Feng Qianyue murmured to herself.
Indeed, what did Yi Feng's actions have to do with her? Even if he was desecrating Yun Lake, the laws of heaven and earth would deal with him. It wasn't her place to intervene. She had been too hasty.
"Thank you for the reminder, senior," she nodded toward the old man and settled back into her meditative state, no longer paying any attention to Yi Feng.
*Plop!*
The sound of water breaking the surface caught Yi Feng's attention. He excitedly lifted his fishing rod, and a small red carp, about an inch long, dangled from the hook.
"Wow, this place really is great!" Yi Feng happily removed the fish and placed it in a fish basket he had retrieved from his spatial ring. He then submerged the basket halfway into the water.
"Miss, look! That guy actually caught a fish! I wonder what kind of fish it is. What luck!" the maid behind Feng Qianyue exclaimed in surprise.
"Xiao Ye, be quiet. We should focus on our own fishing and not concern ourselves with others," Feng Qianyue, still in her meditative state, chided her maid. She silently thanked the old man for his reminder. She had almost let a crude individual disrupt her peace of mind. How laughable.
"Yes, miss," Xiao Ye stuck out her tongue and fell silent.
In truth, Yi Feng was an extremely impatient person. The last time he had fished on the small island of the Heaven and Earth Sect, he had sat for an hour without catching anything and ended up snapping his fishing rod in frustration. But having success was a completely different story. Now, he was thoroughly enjoying himself.
Not long after casting his line again, the float bobbed once more. With a gentle flick of the bamboo pole, another fish, similar in size to the first, was pulled from the water.
Xiao Ye, seeing this, wanted to say something but, noticing Feng Qianyue's undisturbed state, wisely kept her mouth shut.
A gentle breeze blew across the lake, refreshing those on its shores. Ripples formed on the water's surface as time passed.
The three individuals on the southeastern shore continued fishing in silence, each minding their own business. However, while the two on either side sat like statues, unmoving and without catching a single fish, the white-robed young man in the middle kept pulling in fish one after another. Every time he lifted his rod, he had a catch. Gradually, his basket was nearly full.
At this point, the old man in the straw raincoat, who had been sitting motionless for who knows how long, glanced at Yi Feng. But he quickly turned his attention back to his own fishing, seemingly unaffected.
On the other side, Feng Qianyue, who had initially remained calm after the old man's reminder, began to feel restless as she noticed Yi Feng's continuous success. Despite her efforts to maintain her meditative state, her mind grew increasingly unsettled...
