Chapter 876: How Strong Is He
While Evil Wolf and the others were busy studying cooking inside the time formation, Yi Feng was still sitting at a small stall, savoring the wine.
Although half a month had passed within the time formation, only half a day had actually elapsed in the outside world.
"Good wine!"
Truly, it was an excellent wine.
Yi Feng, still not fully satisfied, shook the now-empty wine jar and stood up. "Boss, your wine is excellent. I'll come back another day to have more."
With that, Yi Feng tossed a single immortal crystal onto the table and strolled away leisurely.
"Come back another day to drink?"
Ancient Bear was stunned.
That was the only jar of wine in the entire Demon City!
He quickly sent the news back.
Back in the grand hall, Evil Wolf was frantically busy, setting up another time formation and gathering another group of people to figure out how to brew wine. Only after receiving confirmation that a solution had been found did Ancient Bear finally relax.
Though he had lost a bear paw, he had managed to survive the day's ordeal.
However, just as he was catching his breath, Yi Feng, who had left earlier, returned. He stood in front of the stall, smiling at Ancient Bear.
Ancient Bear's heart tightened, and he quickly hid his severed paw in his sleeve, his anxiety skyrocketing.
"Do... do you need anything else?" Ancient Bear stuttered nervously.
"Yes, do you know where I can find some demons?" Yi Feng asked earnestly.
After all, he hadn't forgotten his quest for death.
Though the demons he had encountered so far were weaklings, Yi Feng couldn't think of any other way to seek death in this place, so he continued to search for demons, hoping to encounter a powerful one.
Little did he know, his question had a profound impact on Ancient Bear.
"De... demons..." Ancient Bear stammered.
"Yes, demons. The kind that used to wreak havoc in the outer city," Yi Feng said seriously. "You're a local here—surely you know where to find them, right?"
"I... I... I..."
Cold sweat dripped down Ancient Bear's face. He truly didn't know how to answer this question, and his expression was as bitter as if he'd swallowed a mouthful of bitter melon seeds.
"Boss, I just spent money here. Surely you wouldn't refuse to tell me, right?" Yi Feng blinked innocently.
"This..."
Ancient Bear was on the verge of tears.
After stammering for a long time, he finally gritted his teeth, grabbed a knife from the table, and slit his own throat, collapsing to the ground, dead.
"Eh? Boss, what are you doing?" Yi Feng was shocked.
What on earth was this about?
He hadn't forced the boss to do anything—he had just asked about the whereabouts of some demons. If he didn't want to say, that was fine. He didn't have to kill himself.
Perhaps mentioning the demons brought up some painful memories for the boss.
That was the only way Yi Feng could make sense of it.
After saying a quick prayer, Yi Feng found an inn and settled down.
Yi Feng's brief pause also gave Evil Wolf and the others a moment to catch their breath.
"Sir," one of Evil Wolf's subordinates whispered, "that human probably fully trusts us now and has let his guard down. Why don't we take advantage of his unpreparedness and use the accumulated power of the Demon City to strike him down, reducing him to ashes? If we can kill him, it'll be the end of all our troubles. No more of this nonsense about cooking chicken dishes!"
"What do you know?" Evil Wolf, wearing an apron and holding a spatula as he stir-fried tomatoes in a wok, shot his subordinate a disdainful look. "Cooking is an art. If you dare speak such nonsense again, I won't let you off so easily."
"However..." Evil Wolf stroked his chin and mused, "Your idea of using the accumulated power of the Demon City to deal him a fatal blow is worth considering..."
"Sir," another subordinate chimed in, "if you do decide to use the accumulated power of the Demon City, you must ensure that it's a one-hit kill. If he survives, it will be a catastrophe."
Duh. I'm more afraid of death than you are. Of course, I know that.
Evil Wolf shot this subordinate a sideways glance and fell into deep thought.
...
Deep within the Demon City's underground palace.
The place was shrouded in thick, black mist, so dense that even a Dao Realm expert would struggle to withstand its corrosive effects.
At the center of this swirling black mist stood a massive altar.
The altar was at least a hundred feet tall, surrounded by stone steps that spiraled upward, leading to the top.
With a solemn expression, Evil Wolf devoutly climbed the steps. It took him a full hour to reach the summit of the altar.
Here, the black mist had thinned, replaced by a chaotic fog.
In the center of the altar was a pool.
The water in the pool was murky, exuding a terrifying aura.
At the bottom of the pool lay a black object, motionless. It resembled a fish but wasn't a fish; it looked like a turtle but wasn't a turtle. The terrifying aura emanated from this creature.
Approaching the pool, Evil Wolf first bowed respectfully.
The creature before him was a sacred being of the demon race, and its ancestor was a figure on par with the national advisor of the demon clan.
Yet, no one knew exactly what kind of creature it was.
Although its strength was unknown—no one had ever seen it take action—it held an exalted status. All demons revered it as a deity, even referring to it as part of the "Demon God Clan." Wherever it went, it was worshipped as a divine being.
This was because it possessed a unique ability—it could provide answers to all questions.
Of course, obtaining these answers came at a price.
Evil Wolf took out a small knife and made a shallow cut on his arm, letting a drop of bright red blood fall into the murky water.
As the blood entered the pool, Evil Wolf's face visibly paled.
This was a drop of his lifeblood.
After catching his breath, Evil Wolf put away the knife and asked respectfully, "Great Demon God, may I ask, how powerful is the energy the Demon City has accumulated?"
After posing the question, Evil Wolf waited silently.
Soon, the murky water began to churn, forming ripples.
The ripples grew into waves, which then surged into a massive storm, stirring up a tsunami. The ground shook violently, and the entire pool rumbled.
Seeing this, Evil Wolf's eyes widened with excitement.
The Demon God Clan's answers were not delivered directly but were conveyed through these signs and omens.
Different questions might produce different effects, but one could generally deduce the meaning.
Based on Evil Wolf's understanding of the Demon God Clan and the feedback from the pool, he instantly knew the answer.
The energy accumulated in the Demon City was incredibly strong—unfathomably strong!!!
This was because he had never seen the pool produce such massive waves. The earth-shaking commotion symbolized the immense power the Demon City had gathered.
With this level of power, there was no doubt that even ten Evil Wolfs would be obliterated in an instant.
Feeling more confident, Evil Wolf returned to the murky pool.
He raised his knife, let another drop of his lifeblood fall into the water, and asked, "Great Demon God, I ask again: How strong is the human who suddenly appeared in our city?"
After asking, Evil Wolf waited anxiously, his heart pounding.
If the feedback from the Demon God Clan this time wasn't as strong as the previous one, it would mean that Yi Feng's strength was inferior to the Demon City's accumulated energy. In that case, they could unleash the city's power to finish Yi Feng off once and for all.
However, if the feedback this time was similar to—or even surpassed—the previous one, then they would have to reconsider their approach.
Still, after witnessing the earlier commotion, Evil Wolf felt a surge of confidence.
After all, such a display was rare, and it underscored the overwhelming power the Demon City had amassed.
