Chapter 86
Ury paced around the office, waiting. The trial judges were due to return any moment now with the results. The tension stemmed from a new mission assigned by the League’s chairman.
The entire team had returned to the room, and Ury began the briefing.
"We don’t have much time—the candidates are waiting in the hall. How many survivors?"
"Forty-eight from the first and third groups combined. The second group was wiped out entirely. The fourth group has five left."
"So, only the problematic part of the team survived?"
"Yes. Both geniuses went to the far side of the location and unleashed havoc on the undead—meteor strikes, firestorms, tornadoes. There’s almost nothing left of the forest there. Meanwhile, the trio of killers, without even coordinating, slaughtered the rest of their group hiding in the ravine, then turned to butchering the undead."
"Why didn’t they kill the kids?"
"I wouldn’t have gotten close either. There was a massive wildfire. The kids climbed a hill and picked off the undead from there. They even pushed the undead into summoning two raid bosses. The third one emerged because of the killers’ actions."
The order to the Hunters’ League had come less than twelve hours ago—a direct result of this troublesome quintet’s actions.
"We have a new mission, same client. The objective is to eliminate all undead leadership in the dwarven foothills. Let the problem group handle it. If they fail, we’ll assign the remaining survivors. If they can’t do it either, we’ll step in ourselves. If everyone fails, we’ll select the most outstanding candidates and make them full-fledged hunters."
Two weeks ago, when the undead invasion began, the League received an order to gather intel on the undead’s forces and tactics across the Ovid continent. The task was combined with the ongoing trials for hunter candidates. Thirteen of the continent’s top hunters had gathered here for this mission. But this latest order was concerning—even for a group like this, taking down raid bosses of that caliber wouldn’t be easy.
