Chapter 799: Experience Points
During the days when Yi Feng was trying every possible way to get money from Shi Qingwu, the entire Nine Realms underwent tremendous changes. Everyone had underestimated the power of the black mist. In just a few days, the Spirit Realm had been devoured by more than half. However, this was not the most severe issue. The most critical problem was that after the boundary wall of the Spirit Realm was breached, cracks began to appear in the Dark Seas of the Desolate Realm, the Ancient Realm, and the Immortal Realm. This meant that two more realms had followed the Spirit Realm's fate, and the Immortal Realm was also on the brink of collapse.
Four massive rifts had formed, and countless demonic creatures from beyond the realms were pouring in every moment. Although most of these creatures were still within the three realms and the Dark Seas, a small number of powerful demons had broken through and were now roaming the Immortal Realm and other realms. As a result, incidents of cities being slaughtered were frequent, and even some major sects had been attacked by these demons. The entire Nine Realms were in chaos, and the people were suffering greatly.
Everything had happened too quickly. So quickly that the people of the Nine Realms had no time to react, and there had been little to no warning signs. However, the Array Realm, led by the Array Elders, along with other border defenders, quickly responded and formed the Demon-Slaying Alliance. Once the alliance was established, countless sects across the Nine Realms immediately rallied to its cause. In the face of such a significant crisis, everyone understood what was important and what was not.
With the support of numerous sects, the alliance quickly grew in strength. The Array Elder from the Immortal Realm was elected as the first alliance leader, and ten other experts were selected to form a council of elders. The alliance's headquarters was established at the junction of the Eight Realms and the Immortal Realm, the most central and strategically advantageous location in the Nine Realms.
Soon, a series of orders were issued by the Demon-Slaying Alliance:
-
Evacuate all people from the Spirit Realm, the Desolate Realm, and the Ancient Realm. Then, deploy all Array Masters of level seven and above from the Array Realm to seal off these three realms and prevent the black mist from spreading further. Although the Immortal Realm was not as easy to seal off as the other three realms, it had the natural barrier of Shadow Island, which made it relatively easier to contain.
-
Construct a large number of teleportation arrays. Using the Demon-Slaying Alliance as the central hub, and each first-tier sect as a node, the teleportation arrays would be interconnected. This would allow for rapid reinforcement and evacuation in the future.
-
Establish the profession of Demon Slayers and create a Demon Slayer Guild. The alliance would promote the status of Demon Slayers. With the Demon-Slaying Alliance as the main body and the first-tier sects as support, anyone who met the strength requirements could be certified as a Demon Slayer. Demon Slayers would receive a substantial monthly stipend, and they could also claim rewards from first-tier sects or the alliance headquarters for slaying demons of corresponding levels.
It was clear that the Demon-Slaying Alliance had a deep understanding of the situation. This was going to be a protracted war. Both the construction of teleportation arrays and the emergence of Demon Slayers were crucial. The birth of the Demon Slayer profession, in particular, was of utmost importance. Even if the spread of the black mist could be temporarily contained, the endless stream of demonic creatures from beyond the realms, as well as the newly corrupted demons within the three realms, would be impossible to completely stop. Inevitably, many demons would break through and wreak havoc in the mortal world.
By offering generous rewards and elevating the status of Demon Slayers, the alliance hoped to motivate experts from all walks of life to fight against the demons. After all, not everyone in this world was selfless.
Meanwhile, Yi Feng, who had left the Hundred Refinements Sect, continued on his journey to find a disciple. However, as he looked at the motley crew following him, he couldn't help but curse under his breath.
There was a skull that had been soaked in wine, a croaking toad, a giant snail that kept rolling its eyes, a dog, a centipede, a bear, and a floating ghost fire. What the hell was this group?
Yi Feng's face darkened, but he couldn't bring himself to curse out loud. His mood was relatively heavy. As he traveled, he had witnessed many scenes of chaos. There were people fleeing for their lives, families torn apart by demons, and groups of experts rushing past in all directions. The atmosphere was tense, as if the world was on the brink of apocalypse.
"Where the hell am I supposed to find a disciple in this mess?" Yi Feng muttered in frustration.
It had been almost half a year since he left Shadow Island, and he had met countless people, but none of them met his criteria for taking on a disciple. Now, with the world in such turmoil, finding a suitable disciple would be even more difficult.
Just as Yi Feng was sighing in despair, a notification sounded from his system.
"Ding!"
"Experience Points activated."
Yi Feng's eyes lit up.
"Experience Points? What's this now?"
He quickly opened the system panel to read the description of the so-called Experience Points. After reading it, he was so excited that he nearly jumped for joy.
According to the system, Experience Points were similar to the previous Luck Points, but they were a more advanced form of value. In the future, the system would completely phase out Luck Points, and all Luck Points obtained through various means would be converted into Experience Points at a certain ratio.
The difference between Experience Points and Luck Points was that Experience Points had a clear method of acquisition: killing monsters. The more monsters you killed, and the higher their level, the more Experience Points you would earn.
This made Yi Feng ecstatic! This had always been a thorn in his side. Although he had calculated that he was now at the 31st level of the True Immortal realm, and the system had clearly told him that he could level up using Luck Points, he still felt uneasy. Previously, the acquisition of Luck Points had been too vague for Yi Feng. Aside from earning some Luck Points when his disciples achieved something, he had no idea how to obtain them otherwise. He could only rely on the system occasionally doling out some points, and he lived in constant fear that the system might take them away.
But now, with Experience Points, he could steadily level up by killing monsters, which felt much more tangible and reliable than the previous vague system. It was a solid, step-by-step way to grow stronger.
Moreover, Yi Feng also learned from the system that with the activation of Experience Points, the system store had been updated. Now, he could use Experience Points to exchange for items that were previously unavailable.
Yi Feng quickly opened the system store. The first item available for exchange made him grin from ear to ear.
"Heaven-Defying Looks."
"You can even buy something like this?" Yi Feng couldn't help but touch his face. Although he was already quite handsome, if he had enough Experience Points in the future, he might as well enhance his looks even further. After all, who wouldn't want to become even more attractive?
The second item available for exchange made Yi Feng cheer out loud.
It was the ability to "Freeze the Time Limit for Finding the Last Disciple."
Yi Feng was overjoyed. This had been the second thorn in his side. He hadn't forgotten that the penalty for failing to complete the task of finding the last disciple was a 99% reduction in his cultivation level. As time passed and he still hadn't found a suitable disciple, he had been growing increasingly anxious. But now, it seemed he could temporarily put that worry aside and not be in such a rush.
Coincidentally, Yi Feng had some leftover Luck Points that were converted into Experience Points, which were just enough to exchange for this item. After making the exchange, Yi Feng felt a wave of relief and stretched lazily.
"Manman, let's head back to Shadow Island for now!"
Yi Feng thought about how long it had been since he last returned home and felt a longing to go back and take a break. After all, he had been searching for a disciple for so many days, and he was exhausted.
He stored the dog and the others in his spatial ring, then sat down on Manman, who transformed into a streak of light and flew off.
Not long after, Yi Feng arrived near the teleportation array of Shadow Island. As he landed and looked into the distance, he felt something strange. It was as if the area ahead was somehow different from the area behind him, but he couldn't pinpoint any obvious changes.
Yi Feng scratched his head but didn't think too much about it and simply walked forward.
At the same time, a patrol team from the Demon-Slaying Alliance happened to fly by.
"Did someone just walk in there?" one of the patrol members asked, pointing in Yi Feng's direction.
The others rolled their eyes at him.
"Are you seeing things? The Array Masters from the Array Realm have set up a barrier here. Beyond this barrier is the Dark Sea, a place of endless darkness filled with demonic creatures. Who in their right mind would walk in there? That's just asking for death," one of them replied.
"Yeah, you're probably right," the first person said, scratching his head and dismissing the thought. The patrol team continued on their way, flying off into the distance.
