Chapter 783: The Thirteen
Everyone was utterly baffled, their minds reeling. Could they have been wrong from the very beginning? Was it not Senior Su Bai who was the incredible one, but someone else entirely? But that didn’t make sense. That day at the mountain gate, they had clearly seen Fan Chong and the others addressing Su Bai as “Senior.” Could they have mistaken the person now?
Thinking about it, it made sense. After all, this mountain range spanned the martial world, and it wasn’t unusual for other experts to enter the mountains to hunt demonic beasts.
“Do you need something?” the little attendant asked.
“Uh… we… sorry, we got the wrong person,” the Second Elder and the others quickly explained.
“Oh,” the little attendant responded indifferently, then flew away without another word.
“Wait, that’s not right,” the Third Elder was the first to react after the little attendant left. “If we really got the wrong person, why was he wearing the uniform of our Hundred Refinements Sect’s attendants?”
“Exactly!” The Second Elder slapped his thigh in realization. If it really were some other expert from the martial world, who the hell would bother wearing the uniform of a Hundred Refinements Sect attendant?
But this only deepened their confusion. They wanted to chase after the person they had just seen, but he had already disappeared without a trace. Frustrated, they searched the area but found nothing, eventually deciding to head back to the sect in disappointment.
“What do you think is going on?” they wondered aloud as they made their way back.
“Who knows?” the Second Elder frowned.
“Do you think it’s possible that the person we just saw was actually Senior Su Bai?” the Third Elder couldn’t help but suggest. “After all, many experts prefer to keep a low profile and might choose to disguise themselves.”
“Unlikely,” Wang Yue immediately countered. “I’ve interacted with Senior Su Bai many times. He’s not the type to care much about what others think. And more importantly, if he really didn’t want to be recognized, why would he still be wearing the attendant’s uniform? It doesn’t make sense. If he changed his appearance, height, and build, why wouldn’t he change his clothes?”
Wang Yue’s reasoning made sense, and everyone agreed, quickly dismissing the possibility.
“Then what if there are two experts hiding in our sect as attendants? One is Senior Su Bai, and the other is the person we just encountered?” the Third Elder proposed again.
His words were met with a chorus of eye rolls.
“Do you think such experts grow on trees?”
“To easily kill a Fire-Winged Dragon, one would need to be at least at the True Immortal Tenth Level. There aren’t many of those even in our martial world. How could two of them possibly be hiding in our sect as attendants? That’s as likely as our sect’s shit smelling like flowers.”
“Exactly, that’s absolutely impossible!”
“Right, absolutely impossible!”
Everyone was adamant in their refutation. But just then, a gust of wind swept over them, sending a chill down their spines.
Startled, they looked up. What they saw left them frozen in place.
Thirteen figures were walking through the air above them. Among them were Su Bai, the person who had just slain the Fire-Winged Dragon with a single slap, and eleven others whose auras were just as formidable. In other words, they were all of similar strength.
But what truly shocked them was that all thirteen were wearing the uniforms of Hundred Refinements Sect attendants.
“Heavens!”
“Am I… am I seeing this right?”
The Second Elder’s buttocks clenched so tightly he nearly lost control of his bowels.
