Chapter 1470: The Foundation Of Tianyuan Sect
"Gentlemen, please come in!"
As Yi Feng and the young man in black entered the shop, the waiter, with keen eyes, greeted them warmly and escorted them to a small table by the window in the hall.
Even though the young man was dressed in black and looked somewhat peculiar, in this bustling city, it seemed nothing out of the ordinary.
As they walked through the hall, hardly anyone paid them any attention.
The tavern was alive with lively conversations. There were well-dressed merchants sitting together, cultivators carrying weapons engaged in heated discussions, and seemingly ordinary travelers quietly eating their meals.
The entire hall was bustling with a mix of people from all walks of life.
Yi Feng and the young man in black found a good spot to sit, surrounded mostly by cultivators or martial artists, which pleased them.
Once they were seated, the waiter continued to serve them enthusiastically.
"Gentlemen, are you here for a meal or staying the night?"
Yi Feng responded with a smile, his tone casual.
"First, bring us a few dishes and two jugs of wine. Later, prepare a room for us."
As he spoke, he placed a silver ingot on the table.
The waiter didn't ask any further questions, just nodded with a smile and left.
Soon.
The table was filled with food and wine, all looking quite exquisite.
Within moments of sitting down, both men sensed that this tavern was no ordinary place. To operate at the foot of Tianyuan Sect, one had to be extraordinary, even the waiter had a sharp eye.
Yi Feng and the young man in black began to eat and drink, behaving quite normally, while secretly paying attention to the conversations around them.
Sure enough, they caught wind of some news.
"I was fortunate enough to witness the grandeur of Tianyuan Sect's Fourth Elder last night. Truly as impressive as the rumors say, it filled me with admiration!"
"Oh? Brother Liu, you saw him too?"
"Of course! At dusk yesterday, the Fourth Elder led a group out of the city. Such a prominent figure hasn't been seen in public for a long time, so it naturally caused quite a stir. I happened to be there and was lucky enough to see him!"
"I wonder what happened to prompt even the Fourth Elder to take action!"
"To be honest, such matters are beyond the reach of us wandering cultivators."
...
Hearing these whispers, Yi Feng and the young man in black exchanged a glance.
As they had suspected, this lively tavern was the perfect place to gather information. Despite being a common establishment, news often spread fastest in such places.
Just last night, Tianyuan Sect's Fourth Elder had launched a sneak attack on the New Sword Sect, and today people were already discussing it. It seemed they had come to the right place.
Both Yi Feng and the young man in black were seasoned veterans, so they weren't surprised at all.
They remained calm and composed, not drawing any attention.
Only after hearing the whispers behind them did Yi Feng feign curiosity, turn around, and greet the group with a cupped fist.
"Fellow Daoists, greetings."
"Might I ask, is this Tianyuan Sect the strongest sect in the Yandang Mountains? And is the Fourth Elder truly as impressive as you say?"
"My brother and I are new here and couldn't help but ask out of curiosity. Please forgive our intrusion."
His words were polite and appropriately revealed their status as newcomers.
His courteous approach immediately won him favor, and the locals felt a sense of superiority. One of them smiled and returned the greeting, leaning in to explain.
"Brother, you're too polite!"
"As newcomers, it's understandable that you wouldn't know about the Fourth Elder's reputation."
"I happen to know a bit and will share it with you."
"Tianyuan Sect is indeed the strongest sect in the Yandang Mountains, a high-tier fourth-grade sect that dominates the surrounding hundreds of miles! However, what outsiders don't know is that Tianyuan Sect's dominance isn't just due to what's visible on the surface!"
Hearing this, Yi Feng pretended to be surprised and intrigued, cupping his fist and asking for more details.
"Not just the surface?"
"Your words have piqued my curiosity. Please enlighten me, brother."
His humble attitude further impressed the locals, who then provided more detailed information.
"Brother, you're too kind."
"It's common knowledge that sects are usually ranked based on their strongest combatants. Tianyuan Sect is a fourth-grade sect, so most people would assume that the Sect Master is the only Heavenly Sun Realm expert. But that's a big mistake!"
"To be honest, Tianyuan Sect has more than one Heavenly Sun Realm expert. Besides the Sect Master, the four elders are all Heavenly Sun Realm masters. They were famous in their time, but they've rarely appeared in recent years, so outsiders don't know about them. But here in Tianyuan City, many of us still remember the glory of Tianyuan Sect's Four Heroes!"
"If you ever have the fortune to meet any of these great figures, you must not show any disrespect. Otherwise, you'll face a calamity that no one within hundreds of miles can save you from!"
Yi Feng nodded repeatedly, his expression one of awe.
Only after turning back to his seat did he return to his normal demeanor, continuing to eat and drink. His performance was flawless, but it nearly made the young man in black burst out laughing.
After they had eaten and drunk their fill, the two retired to their room.
The young man in black could no longer contain himself and collapsed onto the soft bed, covering his mouth.
"Pfft..."
"Ha ha ha..."
Fortunately, Yi Feng gave him a warning look, and he managed to stifle his laughter, not alerting anyone else.
The two sat at the small table, the young man in black still grinning mischievously, looking at Yi Feng with a playful expression.
"Who would have thought, who would have thought!"
"Brother, with your honest face and upright appearance, after knowing you for so many years, I never realized you could deceive people so skillfully. That acting and those lines, you really had me fooled!"
The more he spoke, the harder it was to suppress his laughter. The young man mimicked the tone of the locals, making funny faces and almost laughing out loud.
"If you ever have the fortune to meet any of these great figures, you must not show any disrespect. Otherwise, you'll face a calamity that no one within hundreds of miles can save you from!"
"Blah blah blah..."
Seeing his antics, Yi Feng almost couldn't hold back his laughter either.
It wasn't the young man's fault.
If those locals had known that the supposedly terrifying Fourth Elder had nearly been killed by the "ignorant outsiders" they were talking to, they would have been shocked.
After a while, the young man in black finally calmed down, lying on the bed with his legs crossed, turning to Yi Feng with curiosity.
"Brother."
"Now that we've gathered enough information, and we know they only have a few strong individuals to watch out for, as long as we avoid them, when are we going to start our guerrilla tactics?"
"I'm getting impatient!"
Hearing this, Yi Feng smiled and replied.
"Don't rush."
"Guerrilla tactics are all about harassment and psychological warfare. The first strike must be swift and unseen, making the enemy wary. After that, we slowly wear down their morale. That's the essence of it."
"So, the first strike must not be rushed. We need to gather more intelligence, rest and prepare, and wait until nightfall when they're asleep. That's the best time to strike!"
After saying this, Yi Feng drained his cup of tea. Seeing his confident demeanor, the young man in black, lying on the bed, also smiled faintly.
Soon, everything was ready, and they had gathered enough information about Tianyuan Sect's location.
It was just before dusk.
The two brothers set up a barrier behind their door and then fell into a deep, peaceful sleep.
Meanwhile.
At Tianyuan Sect, built against the mountain, a figure had been waiting outside the main hall for a long time.
It was Jin Weiyuan, the leader of the Golden Blade Sect from that day. Now, he had lost all the dignity and authority of a sect leader, pacing back and forth like a lackey, his face filled with eager anticipation.
When the hall doors finally opened, he stepped inside with anticipation, bowing respectfully to the figure seated on the high throne.
"Cousin!"
"How did the battle go yesterday? With the Fourth Elder leading the charge, surely the New Sword Sect has been wiped out, right?"
But as soon as he finished speaking, a chilling aura spread through the hall.
Before Jin Weiyuan could voice his confusion, a stern voice thundered down.
"Fool!"
"You dared to provide false intelligence, nearly causing our sect heavy losses! What are your true intentions?!"
