Chapter 1056: Something Seems Off
At the former location of the Star Gate.
Yi Feng rode back on Manman, full of energy and determination.
But when he saw the scene before him, his smile froze on his face.
The once dark and misty world was now bathed in sunlight. The surroundings were in ruins, but there was no trace of demonic aura. The area was eerily quiet and empty, not a single ghostly figure in sight.
This desolate wasteland, where even birds wouldn’t drop their droppings, was devoid of any demonic presence.
Could it be that he had come all this way for nothing?
Yi Feng jumped off Manman and, unwilling to give up, continued to search the area.
No matter how hard he looked, the surroundings had completely changed. The once bone-littered path had turned to dust, and the sky was clear and bright.
After much effort, he only managed to find a few sneaky little demons hiding in the shadows. The experience they provided was pitifully small, not even enough to make up for the effort he had put in.
He had returned full of fighting spirit, and this was all he got?
*Crack!*
Yi Feng chopped down a small demon and dejectedly sheathed his big machete.
He glanced at Manman with suspicion in his eyes.
“Did you take the wrong path? Why are there no demons here? Is this really the place where the Star Gate used to be?”
As soon as he finished speaking, Manman trembled in fear.
Bubbles kept spilling from its mouth, and the two antennae on its head started pointing frantically in a certain direction!
*Chirp! Chirp! Chirp!*
Yi Feng followed the direction of the antennae and turned his head.
In the distance, there seemed to be a thin, elongated beam of light. At a glance, it stretched across the sky and earth, emitting a faint glow. The hazy, dark feeling it gave off was very similar to the Black Domain he had encountered before.
Seeing this somewhat familiar scene, hope flickered in Yi Feng’s eyes.
He immediately grabbed his machete and sprinted toward it!
Upon closer inspection, it was a dim light pillar, about ten feet wide, resembling a gate or a torn rift. Its edges were irregular, and it was currently emitting a dark, black glow.
Inside the light pillar was an endless darkness, cold and eerie, making it impossible to see what lay within.
At this moment, the darkness inside was churning and intertwining, becoming purer and darker, almost as if it was devouring the surrounding light.
Could this be the backdoor of the demon realm?
As Yi Feng pondered, the light pillar began to change.
The originally dark, endless black light suddenly became blinding. A dense, terrifying demonic aura surged out like smoke, and wherever it passed, the soil began to dry up.
Then, a slender hand reached out from within!
The sudden appearance of a hand made Yi Feng step back in surprise.
The light pillar continued to churn, and several figures stepped out one after another. In the blink of an eye, over a hundred demonic shadows had appeared. The stench of decay filled the air, and the surrounding light dimmed.
The hundred or so demonic figures stepped forward with imposing presence. They were tall, with single eyes and elongated bodies, their massive eyes making them look terrifying. Anyone who met their gaze would feel fear.
Just by stepping on the ground, the earth began to crack.
The leading one-eyed demon grinned menacingly, scanning the surroundings with disdain.
“Hehehe…”
“For our Illusion Demon Clan to set foot on such a barren planet is a great honor. The Cloud Star Demon Leader is truly useless, unable to conquer even this desolate land.”
The demons behind him laughed, their demonic aura surging.
“Hahaha…”
As the demons laughed, they noticed a human standing before them. If it weren’t for the shiny machete in his hand, his small stature and weak aura would have made him hard to notice.
One of the demons widened its single eye, unleashing a terrifying aura toward the human.
But the human showed no fear, nor did he react in any way.
The leading demon cursed.
“Step back! You can’t even intimidate a mere human? Useless!”
With that, he glared at Yi Feng with his massive eye.
Instantly, a terrifying wave of malice surged forth—hatred, anger, fear, all kinds of dark emotions converged and rushed toward Yi Feng, accompanied by a crushing mental pressure that made the ground tremble.
Strangely, no matter how hard the demon stared, Yi Feng showed no sign of pain.
“How is this possible? Our Illusion Demon Clan’s mental attack has no effect? Human, aren’t you afraid of us?!”
Illusion Demon Clan…
So these guys are indeed demons.
Yi Feng had thought he would return empty-handed, but this unexpected harvest of over a hundred experience points made the trip worthwhile.
Gripping his machete, Yi Feng flashed a bright smile.
“Hehe, my luck isn’t too bad!”
With a swing of his blade, a crisp sound cut through the air.
*Crack!*
The leading demon was split in two, and the other demons’ expressions changed drastically.
But Yi Feng’s eyes lit up with joy.
The experience points in his mind surged, far more than what he had gained from killing demons before. These big-eyed monsters might be ugly, but they were great experience bags!
Demons shouldn’t be judged by their appearance.
This was truly unexpected.
“Hehe, none of you are getting away!”
With an excited shout, Yi Feng charged forward with his machete.
Before the demons could react, a few more of their comrades fell to the ground.
Yi Feng showed no mercy, continuing to swing his blade with a devilish grin. The Illusion Demon Clan was already feeling a chill down their spines.
In an instant, cries of agony filled the air, and the spatial rift turned into a demonic hell.
In less than the time it takes to burn an incense stick, all the big-eyed demons were cut down. Yi Feng reluctantly sheathed his blade.
Looking back at the light pillar, he had already made a long-term plan.
This must be the backdoor of the demon realm. If there was one wave of experience bags, there might be a second!
“In that case, I’ll just wait here and ambush them. Farming experience at the backdoor sounds perfect!”
“Tsk tsk, I’m such a genius.”
With his plan set, Yi Feng’s eyes were filled with anticipation.
He leisurely took out a boiled egg and a gourd of wine, replenishing his energy as he prepared for the next big fight.
…
Far away, outside Pingjiang City.
The scenery by the small lake was beautiful.
The elderly still lived along the lake’s path, some fishing, others dancing in the square.
Everything seemed peaceful, but in the shadows on the eastern shore of the lake, a dark figure lurked.
A few birds flew overhead, undisturbed by his presence. His aura was perfectly blended with the surroundings, indistinguishable from the grass, trees, and rocks.
“My current status wasn’t achieved solely through wit. Without some real talent, how could I have accomplished so much? My stealth ability is flawless, impossible for anyone to detect!”
Despite his words, the Demon Leader’s eyes gradually filled with doubt.
He quietly scanned his surroundings, but everything remained calm.
Something seemed off.
The sun was about to set, and he had been lying in wait here for an entire day. Yet, he hadn’t sensed any elite demonic auras, nor had he received any messages.
The Demon Leader’s eyes narrowed with suspicion as he muttered to himself.
“Is the Demon General unreliable? According to the plan, the first wave of our elite forces should have already arrived on Cloud Star. Could I have been deceived?”
“That can’t be…”
Despite his doubts, the Demon Leader managed to steady himself.
“This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to make a contribution. I must be patient!”
“Our elite forces are being summoned from other planets. It’s normal for them to take some time to arrive. With their help, achieving great things will be easy. Waiting a few more days won’t hurt.”
Gradually calming his mind, the Demon Leader patiently continued to hide by the lake.
He kept the Demon General’s instructions in mind—do not reveal himself. Wait for the demons to gather, then discuss strategies together and infiltrate the human world.
